Swann Morton Sterile Disposable Scalpel No. 11 | Box of 10

The Swann Morton Sterile Disposable Scalpel No. 11 features an elongated triangular blade sharpened along the hypotenuse edge with a strong pointed tip. This surgical blade is ideal for stab incisions needed when lancing an abscess or inserting a chest drain.

It is held like a pencil and often upside down by the surgeon to prevent it inadvertently being inserted too deep. To avoid this scenario the scalpel should not be held towards the back end whilst the heel of the hand should be placed on the skin thus stabilising the hand to help prevent an unwanted deep incision.

This blade is also popular with podiatrists for surgical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremities.

These single-use scalpels are supplied as a complete unit with blade and handle pre-assembled, each individually wrapped to maintain sterility.

By using a disposable scalpel, you limit the risk of accidental injury during removal and fitting of replacement blades. As these scalpels are designed for one time use only, the sterility of a newly opened scalpel is guaranteed, unlike in the case of re-usable handles.
